Celebrating women in Noordhoek
August is Women's Month - and Women's Day is celebrated on 9 August. We decided to do a feature on three establishments which are owned by dynamic and amazing women.
Oranje Cottage is owned by Georgina Smith who hails from the United Kingdom. She is also our newest member of Noordhoek Tourism. The cottage is set within a 2.5 acre equestrian property with stunning views across Chapmans Peak.
Our interview with Georgina:
Tell us a bit about your cottage - what does it offer?
My cottage is stunning. From the front you look out over Chapmans Peak and from the back you look out to Noordhoek Peak. You couldn't be better placed to have a great holiday as we're only 5 minutes walk from the farm village and 20 minutes from the beach. The cottage is very private, being set within our 2.5 acre equestrian property.
It's spacious, with 3 large bedrooms and a large open plan living area. The large kitchen has a gas stove and electric oven.
Why did you fall in love with Noordhoek?
We first saw Noordhoek driving over Chapmans Peak on a motorbike and I thought I'd never seen anywhere more beautiful. It was the middle of winter and raining but it didn't spoil a thing. We then took the road to the beach and got chatting to some locals who were so friendly and helpful. I said straight away, "I want to live here". And we've never looked back.
What about you? What do you do?
We relocated from the Reigate in the UK. My husband's a dentist and my two girls 6 and 8 are in school locally. Between us we manage the horses, our bees and their honey, the cottage and the children. I'm a very keen cyclist and participate in events when I can. This year I did the Argus and next week I'm off to do a 4 day mountain bike race in Igimangalisi in KZN. In September you'll find me doing the Cederberg 100 mile mountain bike race.
We're celebrating Women in this newsletter - who would you say is one woman you admire the most?
Beryl Burton. 1937-1996. She dominated women's cycling (often beating the men) from the mid 1950s to the mid 1980s. She was phenomenal.
Aloe Cottage is owned by Sharon and is a self catering accommodation suitable for couples. It is situated high up on the hillside in Capri Village, with panoramic views of the sea and mountains.
During summer months guests can enjoy the large salt water swimming pool and pool decks, barbeque facilities, or merely relax with a drink to watch the beautiful sunsets.
Sharon is an Interior Designer by trade and used to have a decor shop at the Longbeach Mall. She loves to travel and thus reciprocates hosting people at their beautiful, peaceful and friendly Valley home. If you want to know more about Sharon, check out her website: www.sharonmabin.co.za
Above the Waves is owned by Monica and when you stay at her location you really do feel like you are above the waves! Her apartment for two overlooks False Bay, the quaint village of Simon’s Town and the Navy Dock Yards.
The apartment has it's own separate entrance and a sun-room which enables one to enjoy the view (in spite of South Easter winds) winter and summer.
